NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE. JANUARY 21, 2016 – Traverse City musician, Drew Hale, won the National Finals of America’s largest and longest running talent search, the Country Showdown.
Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn., five regional winners (Northwest, Southwest, Midwest, Northeast, Southeast) competed for a shot at a $100,000 cash prize. Hale competed against Suzanne Harper and Talk Like June, Highway 238, Brad Richmond, and Eric Van Houten.
Competitors performed two original songs and were judged on marketability, originality of performance, vocal and instrumental abilities, stage presence, and overall charisma. Extra points are also awarded for original songs. Drew’s winning performance included, “I’d Rather Be Your Shot Of Whiskey” and “El Paso Skyline.”
“This experience has allowed me the opportunity to meet new artists who have inspired me, and helped me really hone in on who I am as an artist and a songwriter. This win means a real shot at a music career and being able to make sure my family is taken care of on the process. While we sort through all the craziness of what the next few months look like, my plan is to really focus on getting my name and my songs out around Northern Michigan and the Midwest, building a unique fan base right here at home. It’s really all about being able to grow roots here, and allow my newly discovered wings to fly at the same time.”
