Michigan singer/songwriter Drew Hale wins the Midwest Regional Finals of the Country Showdown

TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN. OCTOBER 24, 2015 – Traverse City musician, Drew Hale, won the Midwest Regional Finals of America’s largest and longest running talent search, the Country Showdown.

Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Northern Lights Hotel and Casino in Walker, Minn., finalists from seven states and regions competed for a shot at the National Finals at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn. and a $100,000 cash prize. Drew and four other regional winners from throughout the country will compete on Thursday, January 21, 2016 in a taped show hosted by country superstar LeAnn Rimes that will air in the Spring of 2016.

Competitors from the Dakotas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri, Illinois, and Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas performed two songs of their choice in a timed seven minute set. Each competitor is judged on marketability, originality of performance, vocal and instrumental abilities, stage presence, and overall charisma. Extra points are also awarded for original songs. Drew’s winning performance included two of his own, “I’d Rather Be Your Shot Of Whiskey” and “El Paso Skyline.”

“I’m really proud to be representing the state that I love and playing music that I believe in,” said Drew. “I’m hoping that being a part of this competition will open doors to bring about more exposure to the life and culture of Northern Michigan.”

If the name Drew Hale sounds familiar, he was a speaker at this year’s TEDxTraverse City where he shared about the impact that foster care and adoption can make in the life of a child. “Foster care and adoption aren’t necessarily solutions for childless parents, but for parentless children.” Drew and his wife Emily have adopted three children from foster care.

“I want to write songs that the listener can say, ‘I’ve been there. I can identify with that.’”
